meeting 14/05

We sat together to work on the prototype. Last wednesday  we lasercutted the plates, and now we put everything together. We also made some decisions on the report and materials etc...  And divided the work a bit.

consult 8/05

In the last couple of weeks we sat together twice to make final decisions on the DIY prototype, and to discuss research and materials for the medium batch and mass production. We had decided to use PP as a material instead of the aluminum, because it is much lighter. Consult (Davy): it's contradictory to want a stiff material yet still want to fold it, because there are different sizes you'd need different molds, this adds to the cost maybe it can be made in different pieces (increase assembly cost but decrease mold cost significantly) small/medium batch won't use a mold because it's too expensive maybe think of a more modular system look for sandwich materials like delight or alucobond (for example used in elevators) don't write of a machine on 1 product, it will be used for different products cost/hour, maintenance, energy... a mold can be written of on 1 product for textiles: maybe look at centexbel, or specific producers like sioen write ...

Presentation & feedback 24/04

General Feedback: -Make / buy something:   able to assemble?   right connection?   estethics   compare suppliers -No lose components -Support design process enough? -overview of phases -affordances: why didn't use see something?   change: color/ texture/ shape (semantics)   what action do you want to trigger?     difference: notice something (color); action (shape, texture)     difference: physical and cognitive problems -priority on affordances: 1 trigger more than other trigger : change perseption -physical trigger points -flat sheet: not injection moulding   geometry (material / process) -use of sandwich materials (lightweight) -perceived value of materials -quantify number of pieces   # plates   #hinges per plate Feedback on our presentation: Phases & functions are related, multiple functions = good Indeed better if it's not fixed  Think about how we sell the product ...

Finishing the prototype before testing! On our TO DO list: Starting CAD model Material selection Testing & affordances Discuss improvements on the prototype  On this link you can find the spreadsheet with the affordances: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vfZbuzwpu4tBg3_cfhRxS3k9joUDTp_Jd9s5LF2-ln0/edit?usp=sharing This is our current prototype with the labels on.

Consult & meeting 17/04

Today at consults we got some more feedback on how to implement the design proces in our tool. Really use the tool for our own design process for this course Emphatize > define Clearly state the focus and user group, especially because we want to use a design thinking process Even then, the process now may be too lineair We can make it more flexible by not attaching the phase to the folder Make sure to make iterating possible, going back into the phases Keep an overview of the process 4P's: Project Proces People Product This can be done in one conclusion folder Also usefull for communication Let the user label the folders Process can be a simplified model, specific for beginner designers Our user group is new designers who need to learn the design thinking process. So in our case this could be first and second year studens IO. Look at the courses of 1st and 2nd year students => how to use the tool then? Difference between shape & styling, and...

This is our current prototype. There are different folders for each phase. These are held together with hinges, this way it opens like a book and the folders can be seperated as well. To care it we made use of 2 binders these can be put over your shoulder to carry the 'bag'. Right now we are still looking for a way to keep a folder open if there are things in the folder that may not be pushed in.
